Molly Mutt dog beds: wash the cover, check the filling

A part-by-part laundry guide to Molly Mutt cotton covers, stuff sacks, wool inserts and Armor liners, plus a checklist for your own filling.

You can machine wash a Molly Mutt cotton dog-bed cover, but its wool-filled insert must stay out of the washer and dryer. If you stuff the bed yourself, check the care instructions for that filling as well as the cover. The outside and inside need separate laundry decisions. Cover care, wool-insert care.

That distinction matters when choosing between Molly Mutt’s stuffable bed and its pre-stuffed wool option. The stuffable system uses your own pillows, blankets or clothes in a mesh sack; the wool option comes filled. Stuffable bed, wool-filled bed.

We checked the US manufacturer’s instructions on October 9, 2026. We have not tested these beds. This guide covers laundry and shopping checks, not comfort, odor removal, health benefits or how long the products last. There are no affiliate links.

Which part goes in the laundry?

Separate the cover, filling and any liner before deciding what to wash.

Part Cleaning Drying
Cotton dog-bed cover Cold wash with mild detergent; avoid leaving it soaking after the cycle Tumble dry on low or warm
Mesh stuff sack Cold wash with mild detergent; avoid prolonged soaking after the wash and check the contents separately Low or warm for the sack; follow the filling’s own instructions
Molly Mutt wool-filled insert Hand spot-clean with gentle detergent; lather for about 20 seconds, then rinse until the water runs clear Gently squeeze out excess water and lay in the sun; no washer or dryer
Armor liner Wipe with gentle soap and a damp cloth; cold wash if more cleaning is needed Hang dry

The cover instructions specify cold water, so this is not a hot-wash recommendation. Molly Mutt also says to avoid bleach, bleach additives and optical brighteners to protect the fabric’s color. Check the detergent’s ingredient list. Detergent guidance.

Keep the instructions for your exact item with your receipt, especially if you own a different cover or accessory.

Stuffing it yourself: check the inside first

Molly Mutt says its stuff sack and contents can go into the washer. The sack is a zippered mesh container for old clothes, pillows and blankets. Stuff-sack details.

Our suggested extra check is to read the labels on the items you plan to put inside. The sack’s instructions cannot tell you how to wash an unrelated pillow. If you want a machine-washable filling, choose items whose own instructions allow that routine. If they need different treatment, wash the cover separately and care for the contents accordingly.

Before stuffing the bed, copy this little record into your household notes:

  • Cover and sack size:
  • Items used as filling:
  • Filling’s wash and dry instructions:
  • Saved care link:
  • Where a spare cover is kept, if you buy one:

This is our organizing suggestion, not a tested cleaning method. It gives the next person handling the laundry something more useful than “the dog bed is washable.”

Decide what you want to wash before you buy

For a bed you can fill with your own washable textiles, look at the stuffable system and check those textiles first. For a pre-filled wool bed, plan on washing the outer cover and spot-cleaning the insert separately. Do not choose the wool option expecting to put the whole bed in the machine.

If you want a second cover for wash day, put the bed’s exact size and the spare cover on your shopping list together. Treat it as an optional extra, not a requirement. Our pet budget planner can keep that purchase beside the bed cost.
