Litter mats: choose the cleanup you can live with

Compare Drymate and Gorilla Grip litter mats by washing method, drying instructions, and size. Choose a cleanup routine that fits your home.

Start with the chore you are willing to do. Drymate Original XL allows machine washing; Gorilla Grip’s Silicone mats use a wipe or hand-wash routine. Within the Gorilla Grip range, the single-surface model leaves the surface exposed, while the Dual Layer model has a removable top. That is a useful choice to make before picking a color. We compared these three models using US manufacturer pages, checked September 15, 2026. We have not tested their litter capture, liquid protection, or how cats respond to them. This guide helps you compare the work involved in cleaning them. There are no affiliate links.

Three mats, three ways to handle cleanup

Model and example size Published cleaning instructions What to plan for
Drymate Original XL, 29 × 36 inches Machine wash separately, then hang to dry. No bleach. A separate wash and somewhere to hang a fairly large mat.
Gorilla Grip Silicone, 30 × 24 inches Wipe the surface; use mild soap and water for a deeper clean, then air dry using the hanging hole. Washing by hand and a drying spot.
Gorilla Grip Dual Layer Silicone, 30 × 24 inches Remove the top to reach collected litter. Hand wash with mild soap and water; air dry. Opening and cleaning the layers, as well as drying them.

Our way to choose: start with Drymate if separate laundry suits you. Consider the single-surface silicone design if you want direct access to the surface when wiping. Consider the Dual Layer design if you want a top layer you can lift off to reach underneath. The extra layer gives you another part to handle; we have no measured cleaning times to say whether that tradeoff will save you work.

Read past the word “washable”

Drymate’s instructions include hang drying after a separate machine wash. You still need a drying plan. Its page also permits washing with mild detergent using a hose. Follow the care label on the exact mat you buy. Drymate instructions

The two Gorilla Grip silicone products have different construction, even though their names are similar. The Dual Layer model’s top lifts off and has rectangular openings; the standard Silicone model has a single exposed surface with a raised edge. Both pages describe mild soap and water followed by air drying. Those instructions do not establish machine-washer or dryer compatibility. Single-surface model, removable-top model

If your current mat already fits your space and has a cleaning routine you can keep up with, there may be no reason to replace it. Look up its model and care instructions first.

Check the rectangle on your floor

Both Gorilla Grip silicone models list 24 × 15, 30 × 24, and 35 × 23-inch sizes. Drymate’s Original XL page lists 29 × 36 inches. Other mats sold under these brands have different dimensions, so carry the product name and measurements together when comparing listings. We suggest a quick measurement check before ordering:

  1. Measure the floor area you want to cover, including any section beneath the box.
  2. Compare both dimensions with the exact size selected in the listing. Turning the rectangle around may change whether it fits.
  3. Choose where you would wash it and where it would dry. Picture handling the full mat there.
  4. Check the current stock and total delivered price for that size and color.

Save the model name, size, and care instructions in your cat notebook. When a replacement is worth buying, add its cost to your pet budget. The useful purchase is one whose cleanup you have already made room for.
